Aloha friends, supporters, and sailing ‘ohana!
As our winter whale season comes to a close, we’re feeling immense gratitude for the amazing community that continues to uplift Kohala Sailing Foundation. From breathtaking whale
sightings on our charters to the laughter and learning during our keiki sails, this season has been unforgettable.
We have a very exciting announcement! We have been honored with our first grant of $5,000 from the Atherton Family Foundation in support of our keiki sails. We are so grateful for their support of our mission in making sailing and ocean education more accessible to our local keiki.
🐋 A Whale of a SeasonOur charters were blessed with countless whale sightings this year, including playful calves and powerful breaches just off our bow. Thank you to every guest who came aboard and shared in the magic. Your support directly funds our mission to keep sailing accessible and empowering for local youth.
⛵ Keiki Sails: Building Confidence One Wave at a TimeOur keiki crew members continue to shine! We watched young sailors gain confidence, courage, and community on the water.
"Maybe a life changing experience. She talks about that trip constantly. New details keep rising to the surface, her first time on a boat bigger than a canoe! Such an amazing opportunity for these kids to connect their home in a deeper way. Thank you for your time and aloha in guiding them on these adventures!"
"Since I have been sailing on PUA for a while I am becoming more and more confident in my skills and know how to help. I like the crew and sailing with my friends while learning about the ocean."
Seeing these keiki grow as sailors and leaders reminds us why this work is so important.
Beyond Our Usual Keiki Sails…
We recently brought out a group from from Humanity Hale, a nonprofit supporting foster youth, for a day of connection, fun, and healing on the water.
We were also lucky to take out a group from Hawaii Preparatory Academy for “the coolest field trip ever”
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for an incredible sailing adventure! Undoubtedly it was the coolest field trip ever, and some said it was the best DAY ever!! We appreciate your time and adventuring spirits”

The entire 8th grade class from Waimea Middle School joined us for a special sailing experience! For three months, one sail each month, students set sail and learned the ropes with us, full of adventure, teamwork, and discovery on the water. ⛵️
This June, we’re excited to set sail with our newest keiki organization partner, Kahua Pa‘a Mua from Kapanaia in North Kohala. We look forward to sharing the magic of the ocean with their youth and building a strong connection through sailing and exploration.
📣 Keiki Sail ReminderSign ups are open for our next keiki sail (ages 11–17) Sunday, June 1st. If you know a keiki who would love to learn the ropes, now’s the time.👉 Sign up here or forward this to a family who might be interested.
